Engligh Language Trivia |
How Many words are there in English Language? There is no single sensible answer to this question. It's impossible to count the number of words in English because it's not well defined, what counts as a "word" in the first place. Unlike French, German, Spanish and Italian languages, there is no Academy for English to define official accepted words or spellings. New words are coined and added regularly. 2nd Edition of Oxford English dictionary lists over 600,000 words. A 2010 joint study by Harvard and Google estimated English containing 1,022,000 words with around 8500 words being added every year. |
